A B SHETTY MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES was founded in 1985 by Nitte Education Trust. The objective of the institute is to make available up-to-date training facilities so as to produce expert dental professionals as well as to help fulfill the growing healthcare requirements of the country. The college provides Graduate, Postgraduate & Doctoral training facilities. The institution is a constituent unit of the Nitte University.

A B SHETTY MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES is recognized by the Dental Council of India and it forms a constituent unit of Nitte University.

Eligibility criteria:BDS

  • Candidates should have secured a pass in the 12th standard or any other equivalent examination that is approved by the Nitte University with PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) as optional subjects and English as a compulsory language with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of the optional subjects.
  • Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.

Eligibility criteria:MDS

  • The minimum qualification required for admission to the postgraduate program is a BDS degree or an equivalent degree that is recognized by the Nitte University and the Dental Council of India. Management quota admission in A B SHETTY MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES is also solicited.

Student Mentoring and Counselling

A group of 5 students are assigned to a teacher who will monitor and assist the students in academics and overall development. Orientation programs for fresh entrants , training in leadership, public speaking, effective communication, facing interviews are conducted regularly. Student support programs such as student welfare cell, placement & guidance cell and women’s wing address the academic and psychological needs of the students.

LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE

The Central Library and Information Centre of the institution has been functioning since the inception of the college in the year 1985. At present it is housed in the 7th floor of the college building. Being in the top floor of the building, it has highly ventilated with natural breeze and sunlight. Library has all the basic amenities like drinking water, coffee wending machine, scanning & printing, photocopying facility, display boards, uninterrupted power supply, Internet and A/C for P.G. Section 

As a hub of the institution Library and Information Centre play a pivotal role to meet and fulfill the ever changing needs of the patrons by providing access to the Information needs related to Dentistry & Oral Sciences. Main objective of the library is to improve the quality of resources and services so as to enhance and uphold the academic development of the institution globally. 

Library and Information Centre functions with a motto of “At Your Service for the Sake of Knowledge” 

Functioning Hours: 
Library and Information Centre is functioning on all the week days from 8.30 A.M. to 11.00 P.M. and Sundays and General holidays from 9.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. During exam time it is extended up to 12.00 midnight. The Circulation counter is functioning on Week days 9.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M. and Saturday 9.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. 

Collections:
New Books and latest editions are added every year as per the recommendations received from faculty and students. There are 76 journals (National & International) are subscribed to the Library. Most of the Journals are activated for online access. Library holds most of the back volumes of Journals from more than 25 -30 years. Other than this Library holds good number of Book CDs, DVDs, P.G. Dissertations, and PhD Thesis etc.

ICT Infrastructure: 
The house keeping functions of the library are automated with bar-coding facility. The Library is attached with digital Library section and audiovisual section wherein facilities like internet, photo scanner, printing facility (includes color printer) Audio-visual facility etc. The library is monitored by CC camera and biometric In & Out system.

Hostels

The hostels are on campus and in close proximity to the college and hospital.

Hostel fee: The hostel fee for the first year which includes the caution deposit, mess advance and the room rent will be collected at the time of admission. The room rent for the subsequent academic years will be collected at the beginning of each year along with college fee. Caution deposit will be refunded only at the end of the course. Establishment charges and other utilities like electricity and water will be collected. 

Allotment of rooms: Rooms are allotted to the students at the time of their admission. The students cannot vacate the room in the middle of the academic year. Boarders are also not permitted to change rooms in the middle of the academic year. In case the boarder wishes to change rooms, a written permission signed by the Head of the Institution and the Assistant Director (Student Affairs) is required. If a boarder fails to pay his/her dues to the hostel by the appointed time, then he/she will forfeit the room as rooms are allotted on payment only. 

Mess: The mess advance collected will be adjusted against the monthly mess charges and any short fall will have to be made good by the students. The mess is run on a cost sharing basis. Based on the suggestions of the boarders, the mess committee will decide upon the menu which consists of both vegetarian and non vegetarian preparations. Outside catering is not permitted. 

Facilities: The hostellers are provided with a cot, cupboard, study table and chair. Every hostel has solar water heaters, WiFi facility, common telephone, TV room, reading room, visitors lounge, water coolers, generators, 24×7 security and surveillance cameras. AC rooms are available in some of the hostels. The hostels also have facilities for indoor and outdoor games.

Conveyance

A fleet of buses and vans are maintained in the campus to provide transport facilities to the students and staff, free of cost. 

Gymnasium

The air conditioned multi Gymnasium housed in a 5500 sq. ft building is kept open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the benefit of students and hostellers. The services of 3 professionally trained instructors are available. Equipments consist of Treadmills, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, rowing machines and full fledged multi-gym. 

Sports facilities

The sports facilities in the campus consist of an athletic turf track of 400 mtrs, Football ground, Cricket pitch, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton courts. 

The campus has facilities for indooor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom.
